    Relaxing place for a weekend

I stayed in a very spacious room with a nice balcony and a bath tub too! Room decorations are inspired by the traditional Vietnamese architecture, which reminds me of my childhood days. Breakfast was decent and the room service was surprisingly enjoyable as well.

Nice but not a beach resort
    |

We stayed at Van Chai for almost a week as in a wedding party. As of April 2015, it seems that all of Sam Son is a building site - including the road that leads to Van Chai. Bulldozers could be heard all day long - and all night long. There is no beach to speak of - a 2 meter wall leading to a bit of a sand strip which was completely covered at high tide with waves crashing into the concrete wall. The resort itself is very nice - spacious and clean rooms, efficient check-in/out process and attentive staff. Great pool, good restaurant and bar (who ran out of Tequila on night 1 and could not replenish stocks before we left...) and nice spa/services.
    Amazing

I have been here every summer and even in the winter. An amazing place to go with great peace. I feel like my home with lovely and hospitable staffs, exotic scenery. Highly recommended for those who want to get away from chaos and specially families with kids!
    WOW!

Stayed in Van Chai Resort for 1 night and it was an amazing experience.
The hotel might be the most beautiful resort we've ever seen, and we have traveled a lot around the world!
Low season being what it is, hotel was EMPTY we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Had incredible service and great smiles from everyone working there.
We got upgraded twice, since it was our Honeymoon! Extremely appreciated...
Spent a while in the jacuzzi before getting a massage at the spa... which was the BEST MASSAGE ever gotten. And we've gotten many massages before.
Ocean view room is more than beautiful, a dream come true.
Food is okay... dinner was a bit pricey for what it actually was but the complimentary breakfast was great!
Would highly recommend to anyone who would want to feel like royalty for a few days.
Gorgeous Ocean Views from Van Chai Resort
    |

The Van Chai Resort, on Sam Son beach in Thanh Hoa, is a lovely place to unwind and listen to the ocean. Three of us were there for three nights, so we took the two bedroom family option: one large bedroom with a smaller one off to the side, sharing a bathroom (different entrances). We were there in October, so the resort was literally deserted, which made it all the more relaxing. The staff are very friendly and astute, and the restaurants are open until 10 p.m., and there is also room service. We walked a long way on the beach for two of the days we were there, and were able to observe the fishing boats coming in and out with their catch. Since our traveling companion was Vietnamese, we got a lot of inside information from the fisher people about their habits and types of fish they catch.

One of the local complaints is that the food at the restaurant is sub-par. We didn't find this to be true, although it wasn't outstanding either. There is a large pool, which is not heated, but probably around 72 F., so fine once you're used to it (I swam in it one afternoon, and it was clean). We tried the spa service of the sauna and hot rock message, both of which were very enjoyable. My massage experience in Vietnam is widely varied - some know what they're doing, others do not. This was a good experience.

We've heard that Sam Son beach is jammed in the summer months, so if you go, keep that in mind. The pricing is very reasonable for such a lavish resort: we paid around $100 per night, breakfast included, and the breakfast is, again, not outstanding, but sufficient, with the added pleasure of being right next to the waves crashing onto the stone wall that is the Eastern edge of the resort.

Beautiful resort set in a dramatic location
    |

The Van Chai is at the end of the costal road that heads north from the sea front at Sam Son. It’s in a quiet location in its own grounds with a sandy beach on either side and a beach wall with steps down to the sea. There is a good sized swimming pool, a spa, a couple of restaurants (serving excellent food), and pretty gardens. The main building is charming and my room was perfect, with a balcony, a large, comfortable bed, a mosquito net, free wifi, and a decent en-suite. The only improvement would have been a proper shower. My room had a bath with a shower attachment, which is not really the same when you want a cold shower at the end of a long day. Step out into the gardens in the evening and wander down to the beach to see the waves crashing in. A spectacular sea front. Great food in the restaurant both at breakfast and in the evening. Friendly staff and a charming place to stay.
Winter visit to Van Chai Resort
    |

Me, my wife and young child recently spent 3 nights, including New Year, at the Van Chai Resort.
Our opinion of the resort is that it is a very beautiful place, which has taken quite some time to reach its current charm.
It is situated with its own stretch of beach, and in the summer I expect is a magnet for holiday makers looking for the seclusion it offers.
However in the winter we found there is very little to do, so more effort is required from the Owner to give the guest value for money with a range of tour options. This should include trips to Sam Son and Thanh Hoa at a discounted rate, so as to be attractive to the tourist.
Facilities, including buffet breakfast, spa, indoor swimming pool, outdoor Taipei bar were only available upon request, and were extra costs to an already expensive stay.
We found the staff to be excellent. The real selling point that the resort offered.
So friendly, welcoming and caring. I hope they are rewarded as they should be for the service they provide.
All in all I believe that the rate we paid for our stay at the resort was higher than the facilities on offer at this time of the year.
There were various renovation works in progress at the time of our visit, which is only normal with this type of resort which obviously takes a lot of up keeping.
