    Nice place

We stayed here for 2 nights in the stilthouse. We had a good/ comfortable bed (make sure you choose one of the thicker matresses!) you create your own space by using the curtains. We liked it better than the normal dorms you see in the cities.
Food is good, but price is very high if you join the lunch or bbq. (All you can eat)
We read about staff try to sell you tours all day, I think they changed that after all the bad comments, because nobody tried to sell us anything!
Laundry is good, as well as the price is (20.000/kg)

What a great and relaxing place

Looking at our great Vietnam trip (Hanoi, Mai Chau, Sapa, CatBa, Halong, Hue, Hoi An) this was the first overnight trip we did from Hanoi and it was one of the best. Although it was raining quite a bit, cycling through the rice fields in the rain, seeing the people working in the fields without any real tools other than their hands and the buffalo was a great experience. The local dance performance in the evening (and I am not a big fan of tourist performances) was excellent and a lot of fun. It did not feel touristy (even if it was). We rented 2 of the bungalows and had a great time in the morning sitting on the patio, listening to the birds, looking over the rice fields to the mountains. It was so nice and peaceful. We then also visited the cave (they say 1200 steps) having a little bit of a workout. The market is interesting and might have been the most authentic we have seen, at least from the kind of meat we saw. Of course we also were sent to the crafts market and bought a few things. No one pushed us there to buy anything, very different from Sapa. As reviewed in LP: " Staying at May Chau is a civilized experience" but with this in mind, it was one of our best.

Firstly, Mai Chau is breathtakingly beautiful. If you have time you should definitely come over this way. And do more than a day, it's too rushed otherwise as it takes a good 4 hours to get here.

We did the 2 Day, 1 night Adventure Tour that this place offers. Great value as the price includes transport from Hanoi, food, accommodation and sightseeing.
We stayed in one of the private bungalows and it was just gorgeous. The Air Con doesn't really work that well bit there's a fan and mosquito net.

The bicycle ride through the Rice Paddy fields was just gorgeous. Loved it.
All the food was delicious too and lots of variety.

The next day we went on a three hour walk through the mountains. Just a warning, the first part is an uphill bike ride!! The walk itself isn't too strenuous but you'd probably need to have at least a reasonable level of fitness. Take walking shoes and enough water.

My one complaint about the walk was that the local guide basically just showed us where to go. He never told us what we were looking at nor did he explain anything about the villages we were walking through etc. He also didn't lead us properly on the bike ride home and half the group got lost for a good ten minutes. So that was slightly disappointing bit boy the views were spectacular.
Our general guide Mia was awesome. Really friendly and great English.

Overall this tour was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to others.

Booked the 2 day trip via my hostel in hanoi n after 3 days of chaos in hanoi its exactly what i needed! Beautiful scenery, good food, cold beer in the evening and veeery helpful staff! No mistakes, its not a luxury lodging in a western way, just for people who enjoy something simple, but good ;) Also special mention to Mia, the best guide ever!!
    Quiet and nice!

We stayed here for 3 nights, and had a great time! The food was delicious, dorms were great with mosquitoe-nets, lamps and fans for each bed. We did a private trekking tour with "Mike" (the owner) the second day. Overall a fun and knowledgeable guide, who showed us some fantastic places we wouldn't have discovered on our own. I tried to mow the lawn on a riceterrace with a farmer. A memory for life.
The prices are reasonable, and there is a good vibe in the evening bar, where you can meet other travelers. The only downside is the WiFi, which almost only works at the bar/lounge area. Otherwise than that we had a blast, and can highly recommend this place!
    Btw., bicycle rental is possible.
Perfect escape from the chaos of Hanoi

I stayed in one of the air conditioned bungalows with my 2 year old son. The room was quite basic but very comfortable, with a great view of the country side from the front terrace. The fact that there are no cars on the roads near the hotel made it seem that bit more "away from it all". They do have a golf cart to ferry guests and their luggage to/from the nearest access point. We had a great time exploring the surrounding paths and villages using the free bicycles from the hotel. It was a fantastic to get a sense of rural life in northern Vietnam without hordes of tourists to contend with. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. There was a good variety of local food on offer at every meal and no shortage of it! A great place to relax and unwind, I would definitely go back.
    Cheaper without organised tour!

First off we had a great time here, it's so peaceful, the food is great (especially the buffet bbq in the evenings), the staff are friendly and sleeping arrangements are not bad either (we stayed in the dorm - on mattresses on the first floor of a large stilt building). You're also allowed to borrow the push bikes as much as you want for free!
We didn't book this 'tour' through an agency or hostel or anything, we booked solely the accommodation and the tourist bus through our hostel in Hanoi. $5 per night for bed and about 400,000 dong for the return tourist bus (recommend over of the local bus which has awful legroom and drops you off far away from the lodge).
We had to pay for food on top of this 150,000 dong for the bbq each night, about 50,000 dong for lunch in town (a short cycle away) and breakfast was included.
During the day they organised hikes for the people who'd gone for the full 'tour' booking but we stayed in bed for a bit longer and headed out the bikes on the afternoon. We actually ended up doing one of the excursions on our own anyway to a cave up 1000 steps.

In the evenings there's plenty of space to sit down and chat and read, the beer is cheap and there is Wi-Fi (although it is quite slow!).

I highly recommend this lodge if you want to visit mai chau. We saved quite a lot of money by only paying for the accommodation and travel up front. It left us with a lot more freedom as well.

    Three day tour a must

Did the three day tour package from Hanoi. Excellent tour guide who spoke very good English, amazing food and interesting activities such as cycling, a boat trip, traditional dancing, hiking and lunch at a local house. A true Vietnamese experience!!

I have just spent 2 nights and 3 days in Mai Chau and stayed in the dorm accommodation. It was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the views amazing. The food was some of the best I have had so far and the beds clean and comfortable with mozzie net provided! I had Nam as my tour guide for the 3 days and he was the best. He was funny, friendly and just made my time in Mai Chau a great experience.Having been in Vietnam for over 5 weeks now, Nam made my stay in Mai Chau my best time yet. I will be coming back to this beautiful part of Vietnam and most definitly be staying here again and with Nam as my guide again it will be just as great.
Beautiful quiet place in Mai Chau

I stayed there for a week. It was lovely staying, get away from noisy things in tourist area in Mai Chau as Lac one or two. The hostel hidden in a small village Naphon. It's a bit difficult to find the way to come there because they don't have any signpost until you arrive. I was lucky because I had a contact from the host and they have daily bus from Hanoi to there hostel and return.
The room is very big, clean and very nice bed and furniture. From balcony, view down the rice field and mountain, relaxing with a cup of coffee. It's amazing for the morning time while the sun rises.
walking or cycling around this place is so beautiful as well. Highly recommend this hostel and there motor trip to Da river and some remote area. Lanscape at there so..... niceeeee.... and local guide was really friendly, helpful.
