    Highly Recommended

Our original plan was to spend two days/one night visiting Halong Bay, but we needed to change plans quickly due to heavy rains in that area.

We spent our time in the beautiful Mai Chau Valley instead and were so happy to have been able to see this beautiful area of the country.

We stayed just one night at the Mai Chau Lodge and couldn't have been any happier, either with the position of the hotel at the edge of town and with gorgeous mountain and rice paddy views, with the comfortable accommodation itself, or with the warm and friendly welcome from every member of the hotel staff.

In particular, the hotel manager, Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, made our stay even more pleasant; he left a very kind birthday greeting and chocolates in our room and chatted with us over breakfast the next morning. As our driver wasn't scheduled to come get us until 3 PM, the manager also allowed us a late check-out so we could do some biking in the beautiful valley and still have a shower before leaving.

We enjoyed several meals in the hotel restaurant (highly recommend the Vietnamese herb salad and the banana flower salad) and a lovely performance of local song and dance by the hotel staff after dinner.

All in all, this was a wonderful short stay at the Mai Chau Lodge. We recommend this place to you for the comfort of the accommodations and the kind, well-trained staff who will make your stay very pleasant indeed.
    Excellent Lodge in Vietnam

Maichau Lodge located in the fantastic place surrounding is lake and rice file, very fresh atmosphere.

This is the first time in my life I had great time with many experiences at the mountain area.

The friendly and helpful manager and staffs is the highlight of this hotel.

The room is spacious, very clean and fully equipped that meet all need of tourist.

Tours is organized so good with very good and knowledgable guides.

Breakfast is excellent, nice decoration with fantastic view to the lake.

We love this place and hope to have chance to come back.

    Thanks everyone here.
    Fabulous place amazing service

Where to begin?! My first impressions with being picked up from my hotel were - oh dear, this could be a long trip! The driver wasn't great at English. As luck would have it, there was a problem with the mini bus and I got to have a fantastic time talking with the driver via a translation app on his phone. He taught me some Vietnamese and I taught him some English - was heaps of fun and laughter!!
We then had to change drivers and the new driver stopped at some markets and bought some freshly cooked corn and sticky rice (made in bamboo) as well as stopping at a fantastic look out.
On arrival to the lodge, the manager and staff gave me the most lovely warm welcome. I was treated to a lovely cold watermelon juice and neck massage. My room had been upgraded and the view was just amazing.lunch was just fantastic - all of the meals were so very tasty (ngon). I especially loved the banana flower salad. After lunch was a bicycle tour. Having not ridden a bike for about 30 years, I had quite a few difficulties getting the hang of it again but the guide (cuong?) was just so patient and understanding. So were the locals after I took a tumble nearly into their rice paddies. I was fortunate enough to visit a family home and shared an iced tea with them. It was just fantastic and the family were so lovely. the pool was lovely after a hot day before heading into dinner. Dinner was just as perfect as lunch. Followed by a beautiful display of traditional dancing. Sadly for the dancers and musicians, I was the only audience for most of the performance. This certainly didn't stop them, though and I would especially like to mention the gentleman who introduced each piece and played the flute. He was just wonderful. The special treat at the end was being invited to join the dancers for a couple of traditional dancers and sharing in the rice wine. Perfect end to the evening.
The following day, beautiful breakfast with such a great variety in the buffet. The restaurant staff were fantastic - very attentive and friendly. After breakfast was a walk into the village for some shopping. Again, Cuong was brilliant in helping me make purchases. Then, the walk into the cave which was used during the war. Cuong was very knowledgeable and helpful and really made the whole visit very special.
On return to the lodge, I had a very interesting and emotional talk with the manager of the lodge who was able to give a very personal experience of the war and the impact on Vietnamese families.
This place, the people and everything about my time at Mai chau lodge was absolutely unforgettable. I cannot thank everyone there enough. Can't wait to come back again (after getting a bit more cycling practice in).
    Don't miss this place

Fantastic - glorious site, fantastic service, good evening food, excellent breakfasts. W were in a palm roofed lodge - they are semi detached so you have one adjoining wall. Rooms and bathroom are HUGE. A/c, fridge, free safe, mosquito nets on bed, your own deck area outside the door with 2 lounger chairs. A great pool area with a shallow area for children. Bikes for use - we used them a lot as the valley floors are wide and flat and criss-crossed by cement tracks too small for cars. No TV. There is a show in the evening for guests - locals dancing and playing music for about half an hour. This is free.
To be surrounded by paddy fields and lots of rice action, then walking through villages and visiting some locals' housing was a privilege.
    Do go!
    nice country resort

Resort in the country -- was booked because I wanted to ensure a comfortable bed after a long flight before a trek with homestays and likes. Spacious, comfortable rooms. Probably pool area small with full occupancy. Grounds should be nice in a few years with more mature vegetation. Direct access to the countryside and bike paths. Food mediocre as expected for a resort (it's edible though). Village is not far, but I am not sure food could be better (we are in the country). One good thing is the integration in the landscape -- this is visible but does not totally mar the site (it looks like an odd hamlet).
"Resort" campagnard, assez bien intégré dans le paysage. Probablement un bon point de départ pour excursions. Le site de la vallée est idyllique et vaut les quelques heures de voiture depuis Hanoï. La région semble modérément touristique. Propre, spacieux, confortable, et calme en basse saison.
    Great staff

We only stayed here for one night. Staff were fantastic. Hotel is a bit old fashioned but has everything you need. We were doing a tour of hill tribes so this was our base. Glad we went there but probably don't need to stay here any longer than one or two nights. The breakfast was nice but not that fussed on the dinner the night before. Perhaps we ordered the wrong thing. Beef is not so good in Vietnam.
Tranquility after the hubbub of Hanoi

We spent only one night here but it was such a peaceful and tranquil location. We found the hotel to be a little tired but the staff were superb. The food, dinner and breakfast, after having been in the bright lights of Hanoi, were a little disappointing but completely edible. It is important to ask for a non road facing (front) room as the locals are up and about very early. We very much enjoyed and participated in a dance of the local White Thais one evening. Overall, it was a geat base for exploring the hills and we are very pleased to have stayed at the Lodge.
An exciting return to a sanctuary!

After 2 years, I came back Mai Chau Lodge and found this resort is still maintaining a very good service. Friendly staffs and good facilities have provided me an unforgetable stay in Mai Chau, Hoa Binh. It takes 10 minutes walk from Mai Chau Lodge to Lac Village (The name of a Thai ethnic village). Also, this time, there are complimentary entrance for Mai Chau Lodge guests to visit Bo Luong Cave. I love Mai Chau and this lodge pretty much.
The tourguides of Mai Chau Lodge are the local experts. They are friendly and took care my trip here.
    Will come back next year...
    Rare find in tranquil setting

This is a place I want to keep secret. Everything was just perfect and as I was the only person in the hotel I got all the attention! Good food served in a beautiful dining room overlooking a serene pond with gorgeous sunsets. My room with balcony overlooked verdant green rice fields. It was lovely and clean. Complimentary fresh local fruits and rice wine a treat. Good massage. Easy walking to nearby villages that welcome tourists with eye catching local products. Great for relaxing and soaking up rural atmosphere. Excellent value at very reasonable rates. Really helpful and pleasant staff. Couldn't ask for more.

We stayed at the Mai Chau lodge for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it . It was more expensive than we usually would pay , but it was well worth it . The staff were fantastic ,helpful and friendly . The rooms were clean , furnished in a way that represented this area , the shower was hot and the room was air conditioned with a bar fridge . We received a complimentary fruit bowl in our room on arrival and complimentary water each day . The swimming pool was clean and the restaurant had a good ambience plus the food was delicious . The location of the Mai Chau lodge is set amongst rice fields one side and a lake on the other side .
