Its a very nice resort with lovely views of the mountainous areas and the resort has many pools and a spa place. The rooms and en suite toilets are huge and have a lot of space for the guest. Definitely worth a visit!
What a gem of a hotel in a beautiful area, though you have to drive by a few cement factories to get there. The rooms are great, the food very good, and the tour options are excellent. The only downside is that you can't really walk anywhere from the hotel and you are stuck eating there unless on a tour that takes you somewhere else. It is an incredibly relaxing place to stay.
We stopped as part of a tour of Vietnam and the Emeralda was one of the best experiences by far. The hotel is in a gorgeous setting with the most amazing backdrop. The staff were very friendly and surprised me with a birthday cake in my room which was lovely. The rooms were absolutely gorgeous and spacious with a huge comfy bed and a good sized bathroom. There was a small pool outside the room as well as the large main pool which was a good size.
There is a very stylish bar in the main hotel and the food in the organic restaurant was to a very high standard. In the morning we had to leave early so we were supplied with breakfast bags which were lovely.
The only negatives were the fact that there is no WiFi in the rooms and that the floor in the showers are extremely slippy so be careful. Apart from that our stay was very short and sweet. I'd definitely stop in the resort again as I thought it was fantastic.
Stayed here for 4 days to unwind from our busy lives - it was perfect. Quiet and peaceful.
Room was lovely, large bathroom and lovely comfy bed.
The hotel grounds are beautiful - we enjoyed the undercover walkways connecting up the villas to public areas. The pools are lovely and we spent a number of hours by the pool reading (carlsberg on tap!). The restaurant staff are delightful - although a little shy. They sang happy birthday and provided a lovely cake for my birthday which was a lovely touch.
The spa was very good and relaxing. Tom the tour guide tailored a good half day package for us and ordered a feast for our lunch at a local restaurant, and provided very good information about local temples and pagodas.
We enjoyed our cycling along the river paths and early morning walks taking in the village sights.
We were driven back to Hanoi by the very safe and capable Mr Chin
Some things we felt were a little expensive - but we expected this being billed as a resort.
Van Long reserve is walking distance from hotel and worth an early morning or late afternoon boat ride.
The architecture and design of this resort is wonderful. As the taxi drove in the front gates a beatiful reception that was magnificently designed and like an oasis in the dirt and noise of Vietnam hit our eyes. However, the first impression at check-in was "and here is everything that we will charge you extra for". They lost me by continuously charging for every single little extra.
However, the resort itself was beautiful, albeit it felt a little aged. Other than the immediate feeling of money money money, the location was nice, the staff generally friendly and helpful, and they even made a great suggestion of what to do with our luggage whilst in Ninh Binh city whilst waiting for the night train.
Caution: no WiFi in the rooms (only in public places like reception and restaurant), but this is great as it adds to the romanticism of the place. It's hauntingly beautiful at night
The rooms are spacious and clean and the setting is very nice. However you get the feeling of a lack of soul about the place. I was also disappointed with the extras, $10 to hire bicycles, $10 dollars for mini golf, the prices of tours to Tam Coc are more expensive than if you travel from Hanoi. Considering the price you pay to stay here, things which would be included at other 5 star places you expected to pay for, it's pretty unacceptable.
The main pool was closed for the duration of our stay.Coupled with being disturbed by some of senior management cavorting in the small pool late at night by our villa it led to a distinctly disappointing and uncomfortable experience.
I must however mention that the local staff were friendly and very welcoming.
In the middle of the North Vietnamese landscape is suddenly such a big land with scattered rooms, grouped around a pool with about 10 rooms. Then in the beautiful garden is a large swimming pool, restaurant and beautiful indoor pool, all with the style of buildings in local and beautiful gardens. Magnificent and luxurious all. The rooms are very spacious, with backyard and garden. Lovely facilities toilet, air conditioning quiet, no noise. Nice restaurant with very reasonable prices. And also excellent in quality. We rented bikes good resort and have been advised where to go cycling, using cards. Very adventurous and do good.
We stayed one night at Emeralda and really enjoyed it. The check in was very nice. We were greeted by the reception staff and the manager also came by to present himself. We booked a deluxe room in one of the bungalows with private pool. The room is very nice and I don’t think the websites picture do it justice. The room has high ceiling that are actually hand crafted and well worked. The bathroom is big and has both a bathtub and a shower.
The pools of the hotels are nice and the indoor pool is a good way to refresh from the hot temperatures. Gardens are well maintained and nice to walk around
We were recommended the organic restaurant and it has great food. Try the goat (I think the chef special) it is amazing. They use local product and encourage local farmers so everything is fresh.
The breakfast is served in the main restaurant. There is quite a lot of choice and it is generally good. However, I don’t understand how such a good hotel can cut costs on orange juice and serve some powder juice; it doesn’t make any sense to spoil the breakfast because of the juice.
The most amazing part of the hotel is the spa; while the spa itself isn’t very good looking and the rooms aren’t very cozy, the therapist are simply amazing. They give amazing massage and really know how to relieve pain and relax you. It is definitively worth the price and they have some good promotions.
All the staff is very friendly and helpful. They are going out of their way to make you feel at home and to ensure you have a good time at the hotel. I would definitively go back if I come by Ninh Binh again.
Great hotel, thank you for this nice stay.
Only stayed here for two nights on our tour of Vietnam, absolutely loved the place though! Nice for some relaxation and luxury- beautiful well looked after grounds, spacious rooms with amazing bathroom and outside area- felt like a second honeymoon!
Clean spacious rooms. Huge resort, great swimming pools. Enjoyable but not wow. We enjoyed our walk (only 500m outside Resort) to Van Long Nature Reserve and boat trip, very peaceful. We also walked opposite direction observing the friendly villagers
