    Great experience

We arrived by boat from the cruises. We took over the beach and some of the fellows from the boat enjoyed the nature so much that decided to blend with and and run naked to the beach.

The food was good and in good portions. I guess that's were some of the money from the boat went to since we didn't had to pay for it.

Bungalows were dorm style, no aircon and we had a guy snoring nearby that decided to pass out outside since it was hot in the rooms. He was good fun to be around anyways.

We found another of our boat friends sleeping naked near the front desk. His friends draw a male reproduction organ on his back with sunscreen. We had photos with him, and probably you must have seen it by now doing the rounds on Internet.

We were happy there, I only wish we did had sneaked more booze since it was pricey to buy it there.

Trash in the sea, the beach needs a hand in my opinion.
    Such a pretty heaven!

OMG I still remember the day we reach the resort and saw the amazing view all around us. We could not sleep because we kept staring at the millions of stars at night. This place was so pleasant, so surprising and so quite - it made our trip a zillion times better. We were three backpackers and this place was so worth it. We stayed here for two nights and three days. There are Kayaks that you can use to go monkey island from this place. The staff was so helpful and entertaining. We all played table tennis and darts together. Do take insect repellent with you and enjoy this place to the fullest. Definitely recommended.
    Think Twice

There are 7 bungalows. The first 2 are dorms that are set up to house the boat loads that come off the party boats for 1 night at a time. Our bungalow was the furthest away from the common area so we weren't bothered by late night noise. It's true that there are termites eating away at the buildings and probably the beds. Mosquito nets are available, but we had to set them up ourselves - which meant climbing all over the furniture to find the nails to hang the nets. I found the food to be absolutely delicious - set up as buffet style - lots of food for everyone - but $10 US/person. You can order food much less expensive, but if you don't let them know (and they don't tell you this) by a certain time, they will still charge you the full rate. They claimed to have WiFi but we NEVER had it work anywhere on the island. (in 3 days ) The manager does not seem to be a good guy - the staff seem to either be afraid of him and/or just don't like him. There is copious amounts of garbage that comes into the bay - because of the wind and the tide. While this can't be helped (Halong Bay is seriously polluted) there is very very little effort to clean the beach. On the first day, one of my friends couldn't take it and walked along the beach picking up plastic bags, etc. The staff laughed at him. The 2nd day, I also cleaned up, but only in front of our bungalow. The manager then brought out his wheelbarrow and attempted to pick up the bigger pieces of garbage. There is a dock about 40 M from the shore and 4 kayaks available. We kayaked out to the dock, then swam from there as the beach water was too dirty to swim in. We also kayaked 1/2 way around the island - also over to another beach - this was great fun. A volleyball net, pool table, little soccer space, frisbee, karaoke, are also available. It's a little rustic, but has flush toilets and showers. A narrow beach (kinda fun to be a little isolated) The weather was idyllic and we spent some time sun bathing. The view was magnificent. Watching the sunset was astonishing ! I think the generator operated 18:30 - 08:00 then again 10:00 - 13:00 (something like that). We wanted to have a beach bonfire, but were told that it wasn't included in the price. Many cons, for sure, but we made it fun and have great memories.

Wood eating bugs that make loud noise everywhere in room!

The noise of these bugs was was unreal, we could hear them from about 9 different spots in the room, including two eating the inside of are bed frame.

The plus side is that the place is beautiful but the poor mangement, over priced food and wood eating bugs make it not worth the stay!
    Dream beach idyll?

We have just visited Cat Ba cove and the resort is aimed at a younger market with the majority of guests being under 30 - it felt like a set for a reality TV show trapped together on a beach. It is idyllic but be prepared for loud music, karaoke and jolly games of beach volleyball etc.
it is true, it is isolated, small, with nowhere to run (goodness knows what it is like in bad weather) but we did get wifi for a little while and whilst there is no choice on the menu it is offered as an eat all you can buffet, so you can get your money's worth. One of the big issues they face is dealing with the constant tide of rubbish that washes up on the beach - we watched them sweep the beach clean twice in 24hours but it was overwhelming for them. Something that needs to be tackled at a higher level.
whilst we felt like parents gatecrashing their kids party we had a good time, the staff were very kind and it was an adventure and a beautiful location. See picture of the sunset!
Beautiful spot spoiled by noise and contemptuous management

Cat Ba Cove Beach is not actually on Cat Ba Island, despite what they advertise. It's on a small island off the coast that can be reached from Ben Beo tourist quay on the East side of Cat Ba Town. They took us on a free boat there and the spot is truly beautiful: a small secluded beach in a bay private to the hotel. It's also entirely isolated: there is nothing to do there but the beach, and the only way off is by boat - but this time you'll be quoted us$10 for a single boat trip back to Cat Ba Town (note that locals will be quoted us$3.50 so there's room for painful negotiation). Lunch and dinner can be taken at the hotel for another us$10 per meal; no choice or menu is available.
We had booked a two double bedroom bungalow but were given a twin room. Even when all other guests left that night, the manager refused to give us the room we pre-booked for two nights because 'the other guests have already booked'. It turns out the other guests were the party of the hotel's owner. Air-conditioning was not working and could not be fixed. Electricity only runs from 6pm until early morning around 5.30am - that's when the fan also switches off; the heat is sweltering. There is no wifi or internet connection of any sort.
Worst of all, the resort is mainly used as a stopover for boat tours, with groups playing karaoke into the night - we had loud music and disco lights until 4am! The manager was unresponsive to requests for improvement; his contempt for his guests was visible. I would recommend staying far away from this place.
